Room Parents
Each teacher typically has 2-3 Room Parents each year. Room Parents serve as a liaison for communication to class families from the teacher, school administration, and PTA. They also assist with classroom tasks, coordinate volunteers and field trip chaperones, coordinate class parties, and organize Teacher Appreciation gifts and surprises.
Room Parent Major Responsibilities:
Communication. Room parents obtain contact information for class parents so that they can communicate important information throughout the year.
Class Parties. Room parents work with their teacher to determine dates, times, and needs for class holiday, Valentine's Day, and end of year parties. Additional class or grade level events may be added (e.g., a grade-level Greek Cultural Day to wrap up a unit on ancient Greece). Room parents manage a $300/class budget provided by the PTA, sometimes in coordination with other grade-level Room Parents.
Teacher Appreciation. Room parents coordinate gifts for teachers (typically for holidays, birthdays, and at the end of the year). They also coordinate door decorations at the end of each semester.
Resources:
The PTA Teacher Appreciation team will solicit teachers' favorite things lists and provide them to Room Parents. Contact appreciation@lilybclayton.org to request your teacher's list.
The PTA Volunteer Coordinator oversees the Room Parent program and is a great resource. Contact volunteer@lilybclayton.org with questions.
