Attendance Policy
What time does school start?
Students should arrive at school by 7:45 am. The tardy bell rings at 7:50 am. Students are tardy if they are not in their seats at 7:50 am. Please read the dropoff policy here to find out about dropping off your child at school.
What time does school get out?
Students get out at 3:20 pm. Please read the dismissal policy here about how to pick up your child by car or on foot. A yellow flag means indoor pickup.
How can I get an early dismissal for my child?
Early dismissal of students is discouraged because students miss valuable instruction. However, for those occasions when an early dismissal is unavoidable, students must be dismissed from the office. All student early dismissals will need to happen or be scheduled by 2:45 pm. After 2:45 pm, all students will be dismissed at the end of the school day at regular dismissal areas.
Students will not be released directly from class without a dismissal from the office, and students will not be released to anyone whose name is not listed on the student's registration forms.
A student who becomes ill during the school day should, with the teacher’s permission, report to the school nurse. The nurse will decide whether or not the student should be sent home and will notify the student’s parent.
What happens if my child has a late arrival?
Students should arrive at school by 7:45 am. The tardy bell rings at 7:50 am. Students are tardy if they are not in their seats at 7:50 am. Records of excessive tardies are maintained. If tardiness becomes excessive, the principal will request a meeting with you to discuss the tardies. A doctor or dentist note must be presented when the student arrives at school for an excused tardy to be documented. All other tardies are considered unexcused. Excessive student tardies will lead to parent meetings with the District’s attorney and fines.

Legal appointments (obtaining citizenship, naturalization oaths, subpoenas, etc.)
Observance of religious holidays
The school Data Clerk, Daisy Garcia, must receive a written excuse for any of the above absences in order to mark it excused. Include the student’s full name, the date(s) of the absence, and the reason for the absence. In lieu of an email, a hand-written note may be delivered to the main office or to your child’s teacher with this same information. If your child is absent for three or more consecutive days, a doctor’s note is required. Once the school receives written documentation, they will change the absence from unexcused to excused in the student information system (FOCUS accessible through the Parent Portal).
Unexcused Absences
Events that will not be excused include:
Aptitude or achievement testing by outside agencies
Non-school instruction such as private lessons
Truancy
Travel/Vacation (including educational trips)
Absences without a note/email
Chronic Absences
Chronic absenteeism is defined as two days per month and/or 18 days total during the school year. Excessive and unexcused absences are required to be made up during the school year. The attendance committee will identify students in need of attendance recovery hours and schedule tutorial sessions after school and/or on Saturdays.
