Parent Portal
Attendance information, grades, progress reports, and report cards are available through the FWISD Parent Portal.
Specials
All teachers receive a 45-minute planning period daily. During this time, teachers prepare for instruction, check emails, grade papers, etc. This is also the time that teachers are available for parent conferences or phone calls. During this time, Kindergarten through 5th Grade students receive specialized instruction in physical education, art, and music from our “Specials” teachers. Pre-K teachers have their planning period while the students are at recess/lunch. Art, music, and physical education are integrated into the pre-K curriculum lead by the pre-K teacher and teaching assistant.
P.E. Shoes
Students must wear appropriate shoes on P.E. days. The safest shoes to wear every day are athletic shoes because students go to recess daily. Students must have on rubber-soled, closed-toe shoes that fit securely on P.E. days.
Library
The Millicent Keeble Library, named in honor of former Lily B. principal Millicent Keeble who worked countless unpaid hours managing and building the Lily B. library collection, is a very important part of our school. Our wonderful librarian, Mrs. Bradshaw, teaches students how to navigate the library, find books they are interested in, check out and care for books, and fall in love with reading. Each class visits the library weekly. More information about our library, including how to volunteer, can be found on the school library page.
Assessments
All students are screened in the beginning, middle, and end of the school year using a variety of assessments: CIRCLE (pre-K), MAP Fluency (reading), MAP Growth (math and reading), AR STAR (reading), student writing samples, district benchmarks, unit tests, etc. In addition to tracking progress, these tests help a team made up of the administrators, diagnostician, counselor, and teachers identify students in need of additional support services.
Reading Programs
Lily B. uses three main programs to facilitate and encourage reading! They are described in more detail below.
All three programs are accessible in ClassLink using the app icons shown below. Note that MyOn and Accelerated Reader are both available through the Renaissance app in ClassLink.
Beanstack
Beanstack is an online reading log app in ClassLink available to all students at Lily B.! Students use the Beanstack app to log reading minutes each day. When they do, they will earn cool badges from the monthly Beanstack challenges Mrs. Bradshaw creates and prizes each six weeks for minute totals! The Beanstack Wall in the Library is ready to display students' reading achievements!
Students MUST include the title of the book that was read when reading minutes are logged. If not, their reading minutes will not count toward prizes.
Accelerated Reader
All 1st through 5th grade students practice reading comprehension using the Accelerated Reader Program. All students take an initial placement test in the beginning of the year (STAR, not to be confused with STAAR, the Texas assessment test). The teachers use the results to determine the appropriate reading level (dot colors) for each individual student. Students are encouraged to read across a variety of genres and will receive prizes for six-week grading periods in which they maintain an average of 85% or higher on a sufficient number of book quizzes. Students may read above and below their dot level for pleasure.
You can find additional information about how to monitor your child's progress in the Accelerated Reader program here.
MyOn
MyOn is a personalized digital library that gives students access to thousands of enhanced digital books.
